The sound is cold and suffocating, but contained. And yet I feel it in my bones when I listen to it. The riffs don't sound as massive as they are, but they feel that massive. This is an enchanting album that really transports us to the funereal and sentimental romanticism of the late 18th and 19th century through the excellent instrumental atmosphere, ethereal vocals, classical instruments and the unprecedented addition of distorted bass that replaces the guitars. The poetry of the lyrics is intense. Obsequies is highly recommended to all goth and doom lovers.
